Camosun College’s Electronics and Computer
Engineering Technology department welcomes international
students. We have many programs to choose from and may be
able to provide custom course selections, according to your
education and experience.
If you are interested in getting hands-on
skills in a short period of time, the Network Electronics
Technician program may be for you. This full-time certificate
program lasts 9 months and prepares you for entry into the
electronics industry. Courses are heavily supported by laboratory
time and focus on such topics as networking, computer repair,
computer-aided design, and electronic circuit troubleshooting.
By the end of the program you will be ready to write examinations
leading to A+ and the Cisco Networking certification of
CCNA, both internationally recognized and highly valued
by industry. Your work as a Network Electronics Technician
may include building and troubleshooting circuits, creating
and managing computer networks, or maintaining and repairing
personal computers.
If you seek a heavier emphasis on design work,
consider the Electronics Engineering Technology program
or the Computer Engineering Technology program. Each of
these full-time diploma programs lasts approximately 2.5
years, including paid co-operative work experience. The
programs comprise six academic terms, during which you will
study: analog and digital circuit design, computer communications,
embedded systems, digital signal processing, data acquisition,
and wireless systems. While Electronics Engineering Technologists
delve deeper into control theory and power electronics,
Computer Engineering Technologists study computer architecture
and systems engineering. Both options culminate in a project
design course that allows students to put their skills to
use.
A diploma from one of the Technology programs
can lead you further, to a degree in Engineering. A six-month
Engineering Bridge program is designed to prepare Technologists
for entry into the third year of Electrical Engineering
or Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria. This
popular but rigorous program is targeted at Technologists
who are interested, motivated and have good grades, and
preferably have Technologist work experience.
In addition to the abovementioned programs,
opportunities exist for you to take courses of interest
provided you have suitable prerequisites. Companies may
wish to send their employees for upgrading in a particular
area, for example. If you are interested in a few specific
courses or in a custom program designed to suit a group
of students, please contact our department chair to discuss
the possibilities.
Welcome to the Electronics and Computer Engineering
Technology department!
